  62.   The WD90C33 device driver provides seamless support
  63.   for accelerated display graphics and advanced color
  64.   resolutions when used with the minimum required video
  65.   memory.  It conforms to the OS/2 32-bit flat memory
  66.   model and is designed to function as a 32-bit
  67.   Presentation Manager* graphics display driver under
  68.   the OS/2 32-bit graphics engine.  This driver has
  69.   been enabled for use with the IBM* Display Console
  70.   Access Facility (DCAF) product.

  95.   systems containing the WD90C33 chip set with the
  96.   specified amount of memory.  IBM is continuing to
  97.   test; therefore, support for additional cards might
  98.   be added over time.

  122.   This device driver is compatible with OS/2 2.1 and
  123.   higher.  Do not install it on previous versions of
  124.   OS/2.

  127.   PRELIMINARY STEPS
  128.   _________________

  130.   The following steps prepare your computer for the
  131.   WD90C33 graphics controller device driver:
  132.  
  133.   1.  You must have OS/2 DOS Support installed in order
  134.       to install this driver.
  135.   2.  The OS/2 ATTRIB command is used during
  136.       installation of the device driver.  If you
  137.       elected not to install the OS/2 Optional System
  138.       Utilities or you have deleted the ATTRIB command,
  139.       use Selective Install and select Change File
  140.       Attributes to restore the ATTRIB command before
  141.       continuing.
  142.   3.  If you previously installed SVGA support, return
  143.       to VGA resolution using the procedures in
  144.       "Setting Your Display to VGA Mode" later in this
  145.       README before you install this driver.
  146.   4.  Be sure to copy the VESA** program supplied with
  147.       your system or video adapter and update your
  148.

  154.       resolution and high color modes.

  157.   INSTALLATION FROM DISKETTE
  158.   __________________________
  159.  
  160.   To install the WD90C33 device driver from diskette,
  161.   do the following:
  162.  
  163.   1.  Insert the WD90C33 diskette into drive A (or any
  164.       other diskette drive).
  165.   2.  Open an OS/2 full-screen or OS/2 window session.
  166.   3.  At the OS/2 command prompt, type the following
  167.       command to copy all necessary files to the OS/2
  168.       drive:
  169.  
  170.              A:SETUP A: C:
  171.  
  172.       (where A: is the diskette drive, and C: is the
  173.       drive where OS/2 is installed.)
  174.  
  175.       Then press Enter.
  176.   4.  When prompted to do so, remove the diskette from
  177.       drive A, perform a shutdown, and then restart
  178.       your computer.
  179.   5.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  180.   6.  Open the System Setup folder.
  181.   7.  Open the Display Driver Install object.

  187.       When the Display Driver Install window appears,
  188.       "Western Digital 90C33" should be the default
  189.       choice.  If not, select it.  Then select OK.
  190.   8.  When the Monitor Configuration/Selection Utility
  191.       window appears, the "Install Using Defaults for
  192.       Monitor Type" choice is preselected.  You can
  193.       accept this choice or select "Install Using
  194.       Display Adapter Utility Program" to choose a
  195.       different refresh rate.  Then select OK.
  196.  
  197.       If you select the "Install Using Display Adapter
  198.       Utility Program" choice, you must have a DOS
  199.       monitor utility that came with your display
  200.       adapter.  Contact the display adapter
  201.       manufacturer's technical support for information
  202.       on how to use the monitor utility under OS/2.
  203.  
  204.       NOTE:  At this point, DSPINSTL determines the
  205.              hardware configuration by creating the
  206.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file.  If the
  207.              \OS2\SVGADATA.PMI file has not been
  208.              created, the adapter will not be
  209.              supported.
  210.  
  211.   9.  When the Source Directory pop-up window appears,
  212.       insert the WD90C33 diskette into drive A.  Then
  213.       select Install.
  214.

  219.   10. When the installation is complete, do the
  220.       following:
  221.       a.  Open the OS/2 System folder.
  222.       b.  Open the System Setup folder.
  223.       c.  Open the System object.
  224.       d.  When the Settings notebook appears, select
  225.           the Screen tab.
  226.       e.  Select a resolution.  Then close the
  227.           notebook.
  228.       f.  Perform a shutdown and restart your computer.
  229.  
  230.   Note that during the installation of this driver,
  231.   DISPLAY.LOG and DSPINSTL.LOG files are created in the
  232.   OS2\INSTALL directory.  These files identify the OS/2
  233.   system files that were updated and indicate whether
  234.   the installation was successful.  The contents of
  235.   these files might be useful if you need to report an
  236.   installation problem to IBM.

  238.   NOTE:  If in the future you want to upgrade or
  239.          downgrade your display, you must perform steps
  240.          7 through 10 listed above.

  246.   INSTALLATION IN A CID ENVIRONMENT

  251.   1.  The server must contain a directory named WD_DRVS
  252.       on the same drive where the OS/2 diskettes
  253.       reside.  The WD_DRVS directory must contain all
  254.       of the files from the WD90C33 device driver
  255.       diskette.
  256.   2.  OS/2 must have been successfully installed on the
  257.       client using the CID (Configuration Installation
  258.       Distribution) method.

  375.        /PK:SVGA where SVGA is the primary adapter key.
  376.        /SK:NONE where NONE is the secondary adapter key.
  377.        /S:X:\ where X:\ is the redirected source path.
  378.        /T:C: where C: is the drive where OS/2 is installed.
  379.        /MC:4 is the manufacturing code that distinguishes Western Digital.
  380.        /res:640x480x256 is a resolution/color depth from the
  381.         list of "Supported Resolutions" that appears earlier in
  382.         this README.

  384.   NOTES:

  386.   1.  Be sure you have the stated video memory
  387.       required, as listed in "Supported Resolutions"
  388.       earlier in this README.  A safe choice is
  389.       640x480x256.  Any of the listed resolutions can
  390.       be selected, but your display might be damaged if
  391.       you select a resolution that your display does
  392.       not support.

  398.   2.  After the WD90C33 device driver has been
  399.       successfully installed on the client machine
  400.       using the CID method and the client machine is
  401.       restarted, the resolution will be as specified by
  402.       command line argument.

  405.   FUNCTIONAL RESTRICTIONS
  406.   _______________________
  407.  
  408.   o   To avoid a general protection fault while loading
  409.       Ventura Publisher** for Windows**, be sure it is
  410.       in one of the 256 color resolutions.
  411.   o   WordPerfect** Versions 5.1 and 5.2 for Windows
  412.       produce a general protection fault when the
  413.       "Print Preview" option is selected while using
  414.       800x600x64K color mode.
  415.   o   Users of the software motion video feature of
  416.       MMPM/2* should expect satisfactory results in
  417.       256-color modes.  However, in 64K-color modes,
  418.       users of the feature will experience unusual
  419.       results.  An OS/2 pervasive fix package will be
  420.       available electronically.
  421.   o   Display Console Access Facility (DCAF) is
  422.       supported in 256-color modes only.
  423.   o   CorelDRAW** 2.0 will not run in a WIN-OS/2 window
  424.       session.  It must be run in a WIN-OS/2
  425.       full-screen session.

  431.   o   Micrografx** Charisma 2.1 will not run in a
  432.       WIN-OS/2 window session.  It must be run in a
  433.       WIN-OS/2 full-screen session.

  436.   SETTING YOUR DISPLAY TO VGA MODE
  437.   ________________________________

  439.   Use the following procedures to return to VGA mode.
  440.  
  441.   NOTE:  If your display is out of sync, start OS/2
  442.          using the OS/2 Installation Diskette, insert
  443.          Diskette 1 when prompted, then press F3 to
  444.          display a command prompt.  Use the following
  445.          instructions to reset your display mode:
  446.  
  447.   o   If you are installing this driver on OS/2 Warp,
  448.       returning to VGA mode has been simplified.  Do
  449.       the following:
  450.  
  451.       1.  Turn on your computer.  If your computer is
  452.           already on, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart it.
  453.       2.  When a small white box appears in the upper
  454.           left-hand corner of your screen, press
  455.           Alt+F1.
  456.       3.  When the Recovery Choices screen appears,
  457.           press V.

  464.       VGA mode.  If you want to install a new display
  465.       adapter or video device driver, refer to Chapter

  470.       2.11, or OS/2 for Windows, and you installed from
  471.       diskettes, do the following:

  473.       1.  Be sure RSPDSPI.EXE is in the \OS2\INSTALL
  474.           directory.  If it is, go to step 2.  If it is
  475.           not, insert Diskette 8 into drive A and
  476.           unpack RSPDSPI.EXE with the following
